DIVRGNT ("we," "our," or "us") respects your privacy and is committed to protecting it. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.
Information We Collect
Account Information
When you create a DIVRGNT account, we collect your email address and a securely hashed password (we never store your password in plain text).
Profile Information
To help you connect with compatible families, we collect information you choose to share in your profile, including your display name, your child's age range, neurotype and support needs, activities you enjoy, your connection intent, and an optional profile photo of yourself. Photos of children are not permitted anywhere on DIVRGNT.
Location Information
We collect your general city or metro area to help calculate approximate distance between you and other families for matching purposes. We do not collect or store precise GPS coordinates, and your exact location is never shared with other users — only an approximate distance (e.g., "12 miles away").
Messages
When you message another user through DIVRGNT, we store the content of those messages securely, associated only with the sending and receiving accounts.
Usage and Device Information
We collect limited technical information to keep the app running reliably, including crash and error reports (via Sentry) and push notification tokens (via Expo), which allow us to deliver match and message alerts to your device.
How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Create and maintain your account
- Match you with compatible families based on the preferences you set
- Deliver messages and notifications between matched users
- Maintain the safety and security of our community, including investigating reports of inappropriate behavior
- Diagnose and fix technical issues with the app
We do not sell your personal information to third parties, and we do not use your information for targeted advertising.
How We Protect Your Information
Passwords are securely hashed and never stored in plain text. Messages and profile data are stored in a secure database. We use industry-standard practices to protect your information, but no method of electronic storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Your Choices and Rights
Account Deletion
You can delete your account and associated data at any time, directly within the app: go to Settings > Danger Zone > Delete Account. Deleting your account removes your profile, messages, and matches associated with that account. No email or support request is required.
Notification Preferences
You can control which email and push notifications you receive from your in-app Settings.
Reporting and Blocking
You can report or block any user directly within the app at any time. Reports are reviewed by our team, and accounts that violate our community guidelines may be removed.
Children's Privacy
DIVRGNT is intended for use by parents and caregivers (adults), not by children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Photos of children are not permitted anywhere on DIVRGNT, including in profiles, messages, or any shared content. If we become aware that a child has created an account or that a child's personal information has been submitted to us, we will take steps to delete that information.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify users through the app or via email. Continued use of DIVRGNT after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
